Constructing BaseStone: November

We like speed at BaseStone. In fact, we realised that we are developing features so fast that we need a monthly blog post dedicated to the BaseStone product. Welcome to Constructing BaseStone – read on to find out about all of the updates from the past month.

BaseStone is built around the needs of construction professionals, so all of our features originate from insights provided by our users and industry partners. If you have any feedback or requests, feel free to get in touch at support@basestone.io.

Labels and Label Filters

Labels allow you to organise your files and drawings in your own way. You can use them to flag a drawing for review, or to group drawings by specialism. They give you the flexibility to seamlessly integrate BaseStone into your workflow.

Activity Feed

With all of the different activities going on throughout a construction project, it’s easy to lose track of what’s been done. The Activity Feed is BaseStone’s answer to this problem. Any changes made on a project, by any member of the project team will be logged on the Activity Feed.

Fullscreen Web Viewer

An exciting new feature is the ability to markup drawings in a fullscreen viewer on the BaseStone web platform. Along with our powerful markup tools, you can now review drawings within a beautifully designed full screen interface. Try it out for yourself!

Issues

With so many different parties collaborating on a project, it can be difficult to keep track of issues that need to be addressed. With BaseStone, you can see all of the issues associated with a project at the click of a button. This seemingly small feature makes a huge difference to your understanding of the overall progress of your project. You can also filter by priority and status, giving you the ability to see (and correct) the most urgent issues.

Reporting

Reporting is an important part of the review process. We aim to reduce the time and effort required to produce reports (because you’re busy and have better ways to spend your time) whilst providing a powerful audit trail. All of the data used to produce the report is derived from our system, providing accuracy and assurance.

You can generate reports at the click of a button on the website and in the new version of our app (2.2).

We hope you enjoy the new features!

We’ve released Version 2.1 onto the App Store

We are very happy to announce the release of the latest version of  BaseStone App 2.1! Powerful revision tracking means that you’ll always have the right drawing revision in your hands.

Construction drawings change and evolve over the life of a construction project. Reviewing drawings is an immeasurably important process, requiring collaboration between architects, engineers and contractors. However, huge problems can arise when multiple revisions of a drawing exist.

One more step towards eliminating abortive work.

The newest version of our app includes powerful revision tracking functionality, helping make sure that you’re always looking at the right revision. Our mission is to eliminate abortive work on construction projects and BaseStone 2.1 makes a big step towards achieving this.

Linked revisions appear grouped together in one easily accessible place:

You are now able to view previous revisions from within the app. Simply press the revision icon and you’ll see the the revision history of the drawing.

Know that you’re looking at the right revision:

You will be notified if you are looking at an old revision, ensuring that you never design or build off an out of date drawing again.

We fixed the bugs too!

In 2.1 we worked on fixing certain bugs. We are pleased to announce that these bugs are, indeed, fixed! Another minor change to the app is the ability to enlarge photos for easy viewing.

Stay tuned for more product updates. We’re currently working on a new web interface and very excited to show it to you.

BaseStone 2.0 is here and better than ever!

I am so very proud of the team for the blood sweat and tears that they have poured into the creation of this huge BaseStone update. We started where all startups do and listened intently to all our customers. We took all the feedback and constructive criticism, and began to shape and mould what we believe will be the future of cloud hosting solutions in construction.

image

The biggest change in 2.0 is the complete makeover of the interface. We get that when you’re working on site, the last thing you want is to be fiddling around with confusing technology, so we prioritised giving our app the simplest and most intuitive interface of any on the market.

We architected the app to capture information from your drawings in an intuitive way. Unlike any other annotation and review tool, it allows you to group together information about a single issue, using multiple annotation tools and photos. For example, use BaseStone to snag by taking before and after photos. You can effortlessly capture the progress of an issue from beginning to end.

image

With the issues list, it’s now also easier to get an overview of all issues related to a particular drawing: who created them, how urgent they are and what their status is. Simply tap on any issue from the list to hone in on more detail.

Also new in 2.0 is the ability to create projects directly in the app, as well as at basestone.io. You can even import files from other applications, including Dropbox and Box, directly from your ipad.

image

In addition to all of the above, BaseStone 2.0 is supported by our web-based issuing platform – the ability to share your drawings with anyone, anywhere.

BaseStone’s mission is to provide a comprehensive solution for storing, managing and collaborating on drawings in the construction industry. To bring the latest technological developments to an industry that is traditionally slow to adapt in a way that is immediately valuable for that industry. BaseStone 2.0 for web and ipad is a massive leap in the right direction. Now we need your feedback again so we can continue designing a product specifically for your needs, and one that the industry deserves.

New Month, New Feature: Create issuing sheets automatically on BaseStone

The BaseStone tech team have been beavering away for the last few weeks making some seriously kick-ass improvements to our formal sharing tool. Now you can automatically create issuing sheets on BaseStone and save your document controllers hours.

BaseStone already has a pretty great system for issuing drawings. It enables you to send drawings to multiple email addresses, with one click, and track who has received them. On the receiving end your client can preview the drawing in their browser without having to download anything.

However, our users wanted more; and their wishes are our command. So now, our clever little system extracts data from your pdf drawings into an issuing sheet, ensuring your clients know exactly what they’ve been sent.

On top of that, your document controller can verify that the revision details are correct by simply looking at the issuing sheet. No need to manually check all your drawings against it. We’ve already had feedback that it saves over half a day’s work for document controllers per week.

But what does this actually mean for a business? Well, based on average salaries for a document controller, we’ve worked out that this feature alone could save you over £200 per month.

–‘Ah but,’ I hear you say, ‘I will still have to pay his/her full salary regardless’.

– Yes, but wait for it…

With that extra half day, your employee could be updating CAD drawings, which increases the cycle for revisions, which, in turn, means you get projects finished quicker, which translates to being able to take on more projects… Phew!

What’s more, BaseStone have now introduced a completely free offering, so you can try the new formal sharing tool for absolutely nothing.
